Born Ashley Michelle Tisdale in West Deal, New Jersey, on July 2, 1985, Tisdale’s household had always had a touch of celebrity to it; her grandfather, Arnold Morris, was the salesmen for the television icon commercial for Ginsu knives, and her cousin is the famous television infomercial super salesman Ron Popeil. Discovered at age 5 by movie agency and talent manager, at a shopping mall in her home town, Tisdale got a job as a model for J.C. Penny, which led to paid jobs in over one hundred national network television commercials. By age eight, Tisdale was headlining the national touring company of “Les Miserables,” followed by an worldwide tour for “Annie” and a appearances at the White House by age thirteen. Realizing their daughter’s career was gaining energy, her family picked up and moved to Valencia, CA while the future star was still a freshman in high school. A variety of television appearances followed, including series episodes of “7th Heaven” (WB, 1996-2006) with David Gallagher, and “Boston Public” (Fox, 2000-04). She also also played a small part in the 2001 offbeat film “Donnie Darko” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Noah Wyle, and Drew Barrymore - cast as simply “Dorky Girl.” More television work followed, including repeat appearances on “The Hughleys” (ABC, 1998-2002), “George Lopez” (ABC, 2002- ) and “Still Standing” (CBS, 2002- ), and had impressive walk-on part on the hit network show “Malcolm in the Middle” (Fox, 2000-06) and “Charmed” (WB, 1998-2006) working along side friend and fellow actress Alyssa Milano.
In 2005, Tisdale was hired by Disney for the series “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” (2005- ) as Maddie Corwin, the series’ babysitter to Dylan and Cole Sprouse, who played the troublesome twins. The series was second only to “That’s So Raven” (Disney Channel, 2003- ) in recognition and ratings. Having already shown she had what it took to star in a Disney production, Tisdale was hired next to fellow teen celebrity stars Zac Efron, Corbin Bleu, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Lucas Grabeel, and Monique Coleman in smash hit television variety film that would showcase both her singing and dancing.
In 2006, Tisdale also contributed to a version of “Someday My Prince Will Come” on the Disneymania 4 CD.
