A stunning beauty that has taken Bollywood by storm, Aishwarya Rai has raced to the top of her game in not only Bollywood style productions, but also domestic films in the United States such as "The Pink Panther 2" (2009), Action Replay" (2010) and "Singularity" (2010).

Born in 1973 to a traditional Indian family, Rai started her career by appearing in Coke and Pepsi commercials, before appearing in Vogue Magazine and competing in the Miss Indiana beauty competition. In 1994, Aishwarya took second place in the pageant. She then went on to be crowned "Miss Universe" in 1994.

Her first big break was in the 1997 romantic comedy "Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya", a coming of age movie that deals with the issue of arranged marriage and internal family strife. She went on to make a name for herself in such Bollywood films such as Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999),  Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), and "Taal" (1999).

Rai's sensational singing voice was profiled in her special appearance in "Ravoyi Chandamama" (1999), and her action skills in her role in the dramatic film "Mela" (2000), about a family massacre at a local fair after a terrorist attack rocks the small town.

In India, Rai became recognized for her role as Madhumita Veishnavi in "Jeans" (1998), about a pair of Indian twins living in America with their father, and as Meenakshi in "Kandukondain Kandukondain" (2000), an Indian adaptation of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility."

Aishwarya won the Filmfare Award for best actress for her role in "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" (1999) playing Ajay Devgan's wife who is in love with another man. Aishwarya also stunned viewers with her role as a rape victim in "Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai" (2000).

Aishwarya's success continued when in 2002 she worked with Sajay Leela Bhansali in the grand saga of endless love "Devdas". "Devdas" tells the story of what happens After a mans wealthy family prohibits him from marrying the woman he is in love with, Devdas Mukherjee's life spirals further and further out of control as he takes up alcohol and a life of vice to kill the emotional pain. "Devdas" is the most successful film in Bollywood history, and became the first Bollywood picture to ever receive a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival and broke box-office records in both India and the United States.

Aishwarya's success help put her on the covers of Vogue Magazine, Time, Rolling Stones, Hello Magazine, GQ Magazine, New York Times Magazine, Harper's & Queen and others.

Aishwarya took her first English-speaking role in "Bride & Prejudice" in 2004 starring as Lalita Bakshi in the dramatic comedy where Bollywood clashes with Hollywood. An update of Jane Austen's classic tale, in which Mrs. Bakshi is eager to find suitable husbands for her four unmarried daughters. When the rich single gentlemen Balraj and Darcy come to visit, the Bakshis have high hopes, though circumstance and boorish opinions threaten to get in the way of romance.

After appearances on the "David Letterman" and the "Oprah Winfrey" show, her United States Hollywood career was thrust into overdrive. In 2007, Aishwarya took the role of Mira in the action adventure "The Last Region" starring alongside Colin Firth and Ben Kingsley, where As the Roman Empire crumbles, young Romulus Augustus flees the city and embarks on a perilous voyage to Britain to track down a legion of supporters.

In 2010, Aishwarya appeared in the science fiction adventure "Endhiran", and then starred as Sita in "Raavana" before taking the starring role in the comedy adventure "Action Replay" (2010) about an elderly man who travels back in time to when he was a young handsome man in the 1970s. 

After her starring role in "Guzaarish" (2010), Rai wrapped her year starring in the romantic comedy "Singularity" (2010), an epic romance centered around four people: a British officer in colonial India; the Indian woman he falls in love with; an American marine biologist; and his lover, a researcher who is trapped in a wrecked British merchant ship.
