Hilary Duff Biography:

Teen actress Hilary Duff swiftly rose to fame on the force of her winning performance on the victorious television series "Lizzie McGuire". Born in Houston, Texas, September 28, 1987, she gained a fascination for dance and stage at the age of seven and started taking ballet lessons, later making her stage introduction in a Christmas production of The Nutcracker.

Duff grew a strong love for acting after being hired in her first television commercial, and, in 1998, appeared in the film "Casper Meets Wendy" as Wendy, a teenage witch.

After attempting a more theatrical role in the television production of "The Soul Collector" and guest appearances on "Chicago Hope" working with Lauren Holly, Duff was hired in the lead role of "Lizzie McGuire" in 2001. A television series situation comedy for young teens, "Lizzie McGuire" revolved around the troubles and evils of middle school student Lizzie as she and her animated alter-ego cope with the amusing side of the teenage years. An instantaneous smash hit on The Disney Channel, the series made Duff a identifiable celebrity to television viewers around the country, and Disney quickly responded by hiring her in movie adaptation of, "Cadet Kelly", where ratings were strong. In 2002, the Duff also made a short guest appearance in the wacky comedy "Human Nature", playing Young Lila, a long-haired teen who grows up to become Patricia Arquette.

After the success of Lizzie McGuire, Duff tried her skills in the music business, writing and performing a song for the television show's soundtrack album, and recording a Christmas album in 2002. Released in theaters in the summer of 2003, "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" gave the ultimate movie substitute for teen girls not interested in the action of "X2: X-Men United" and not old enough yet to be pulled into the hype of "The Matrix Reloaded" both which were released at the same time as "Lizzie".

Earning two times the cost of production in only five short weeks at the box office, Duff shocked fans a little more than a month after the movies United States airing by announcing that because of a contract negotiation breakdown, she would be leaving the well-paid "Lizzie McGuire" phenomenon to seek other acting projects. By the time the show's finale was broadcast in late 2004, Duff had already jump-started her movie career into high speed, ending 2003 with three smash hit movies in the can: "Agent Cody Banks" with "Malcolm In The Middle" star Frankie Muniz, the already released "Lizzie McGuire Movie", and the holiday smash hit "Cheaper by the Dozen" with superstar Steve Martin and a bit part by Ashton Kutcher.

Hoping to keep her energy growing, Duff worked on three additional features, two of which were produced by Lizzie McGuire director Mark Rosman. The first was the drama "Raise Your Voice", portraying a small town girl who learns to fight for her superstar celebrity goals.

In 2005, Duff worked on the sequel "Cheaper by the Dozen 2" getting to work with pal Carmen Electra, and starring opposite Heather Locklear in the romantic comedy thriller "The Perfect Man". In 2006 Hilary starred and produced the Martha Coolidge created "Material Girls", where both Hilary and sister Haylie played spoiled heiresses whose world changes radically when their family loses its money. The crisp parody did not connect with critics, or even with the Duffs' long standing teen fans.

Sadly, Hilary Duff and Disney could not agree on her salary and other contact elements, so Hilary left Disney to pursue her own interests and career aspirations, and there is no doubt we will be seeing more of Duff as the seasons unfold. .
