A top teen model of the 1970's and star of film and television, Phoebe Cates began her film career in the movies "Paradise" (1982), and "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (1982) with Sean Penn and Jennifer Jason Leigh, and then "Private School" 1983), about a student at an exclusive all-girls private school, who attends an academy for boys nearby. The second role was as Lilli, an actress out to destroy her mother who left her at birth, in the dramatic miniseries, "Lace". She returned to television for the 1985 sequel, "Lace II". Her film credits include "Bright Lights, Big City" (1988) with Kiefer Sutherland, as Michael J Fox's estranged wife in, "Shag: The Movie" (1988), Dante's sequel "Gremlins 2" (1990), and "Drop Dead Fred" (1991), about a young woman who finds her unstable life jolted by the presence of a troublesome imaginary friend from childhood. She then appeared in "Bodies, Rest & Motion" (1993), with Bridget Fonda, Tim Roth, and Eric Stoltz. She followed with "Princess Cariboo" (1994), and the dramatic comedy "The Anniversary Party" (2001) with Jennifer Jason Leigh, She is married to actor Kevin Kline.
