| The best way to get the your word out is by using reciprocal banner services. This is where you agree to display someone's banner on your page, and in return, someone else displays your banner. | |
| Services like the Link Exchange and Net Ads are good examples of these services. You open an account (usually with an online form), and they email you your account number and password.
Then, you develop your own banner and send it to them. They supply you with the HTML to add to your page, and your in business. All you do is add this HTML to your pages to start displaying banners. Each service will tell you the size you need to make your banner (usually 350 x 50 or 400 x 40 pixels). You can use any graphic editor that handles saving files in GIF format. One good editor is Paint Shop Pro. Not only does it create nice banners, but it's shareware. When you submit your GIF banner to a reciprocal service, it is added to the rotation and is seen on thousands of web sites.
| The Internet Link Exchange will display your banner on another members page 1 time for every 2 banners you display.
The Link Exchange seems to have a larger base of members then most co-ops, and if you use no other banner service, you should at LEAST use the Link Exchange.
| These services allow you to track hits almost in real-time, and can be used instead of CGI or public counters. If you have a banner on every page you can determine the number of hits it receives by looking at the statistics (this can usually be done from an on-line web form). | ||
